POLISH GROUP IN TOWN
By Steve Whitmore
Monday
night`s Simi Valley City Council meeting was the firdt venture into the
capitalistic classroom for member of Poland`s business community.
The council also gave the 18 people from across Poland visiting Simi Valley
resolutions applauding their educational efforts. The group is on a fact-finding
tour to help improve polish business practices, especially in the ongoing
conversion from Communism to a free-market system.
The group sponsored by Poland`s Creative Leader Center and the International
Association for Manageral and Organizational Psychosynthesis, is here for
another two weeks. They`re staying at the Clarion Hotel, where they will be
attending business seminars.
"We are from all over Poland" said Agata Milczarkiewicz, the group`s
interpreter. "this is a wonderful place. We love it here".
Milczarkiewicz said the grouo just arrived Saturday and spent Sunday at
orientation, but so far so good.
The industries represented by the Poland group include publishing, medical
supplies and mining, to name a few.
The state of Polish business is good, said Milczarkiewicz, but improvement is
always in order.
"We are the best, um, the strongest of the former Communost countries",
she said. " But the people need to change the way they think about business.
That`s why we are here".
John Cullen, president of the International Assocation and a Thousand Oaks
resident, said that Simi Valley was chosen because in part, the Clarion hotel
made it economically feasible, while the community climate here is good example
of succesful partnership between business and government.
"This city has good business climate", Cullen said.
